is it a bad sign or good sign when one starts critiqueing kebabs in london?

What a week, well, fortnight

Well kids, it's been a long time since I have written a decent entry. So what better time to write than when I'm nursing an extremely severe hangover and have internet access in the comfort of our Willy G loungeroom. Last night was so not what I expected. After having an alcohol free (almost) two weeks, I hit the sauce in style. I was only supposed to have a few cheeky ones after work then head home as I wanted to shop til I dropped today (HA so postponed), but, it was not to be.

I ended out with a chick from work (Dan's team secretary, who I always thought hated me, I guess not) and a bunch of her mates. Before meeting up with them we ducked into Tesco's for supplies.. we ended up with donuts (!?) then as we crossed the road, stopped some van driven by Aussies and shared them whilst holding up traffic. (Comment of the night "You have GOT to be having a laugh"). We then went to Hoxton Square and this place was buzzing! We had to line up (WHATEVER), however to make up for giving the bouncers a hard time we bought them hot chocolates... we're so always going to be on the list!

When we entered they were playing a mix of Nirvana/Metallica/Gunners... I thought I had died and gone to heaven. 4 sambuccas later I was truly on my way.. we danced the night away and I ended up having a MASSIVE convo with some random guy about Tool.. it was wicked! £27 later I was home.. I can no longer bear paydays, I'll be poor as within a week I guarantee it.

So, here I sit procrastinating what to do for the rest of the weekend, I'm fairly certain today will involve a lot of sitting, sleeping and nothingness. Tomorrow I'm going for a 2 hour train ride to go shopping!! And I found out this morning the centre is apparently in Kent, where Mum's from, so I'll be interested to see if that is the case.

Yesterday I booked my trip to Turkey for ANZAC Day. I'll be doing this tour. I'm so looking forward to it. Want to go elsewhere in the meantime.. I need to see Europe already! Hopefully will get to Poland with Towsty in March and if not get a weekend away before Vanessa's birthday.

I'm updating my photos today. Andy and I spent all of last Saturday on the go... saw Buckingham Palace (and the changing of the guards) which was pretty cool. We agreed the Palace wasn't as impressive as we thought, however, I wouldn't turn it down if I got offered a room there (Particularly if William was in residence). Walked through Hyde Park - amazing. What was more amazing was thinking I'll be seeing Foo Fighters there bang in the middle of summer... SO cannot wait for that. (And Christer will be coming across for it too, god bring on June!!).

We're now officially members of the Hard Rock Casino. Yes, they have a casino. Which they make you join to enter. What a load of bollocks!! And it's shit too, although we did have a laugh at the blackjack tables... did we dare play a £5 hand (which back home is triple what we'd normally play)... nah, too skint for that. Saw Trafalgar for the first time since the Russian Winter Festival (we celebrated Russian New Year there about a month ago.. those crazy Russians ring in the new year around Jan 14... it must be all that vodka), I love the square, it's huge and always buzzing with people.. just a really cool place and right near Soho/Piccadilly/Chinatown. After having dinner in Covent Garden we had a look at the big Oz Shop on Shaftsbury and dropped into the Porterhouse for... a Paley!!! My second since I've been here. No Coopers for 3 months makes Rez something something.

And how could I forget to write about the Chelsea match!? Wicked. I never got soccer and would certainly never watch it, but seeing it live has given me appreciation for the game. It was rather exciting and the crowd got so into it. It was funny, on a Wed night Chels playing Everton drew 33,000 people. Port couldn't even draw that kind of crowd on the weekend! Anyhow, Blues won 4-1 and everyone was happy. So happy that we ended up taking over the Fulham Slug and Lettuce afterwards and drank til we got kicked out (which thank god was around 11 or so.. still had a nasty hangover the next day... and we had kebabs.. GRR!!). Went to the Walkabout (my first Walky outing!) on Wed night with Megs to watch Chelsea v Barcelona, good game, Chels lost, but the atmosphere at the bar (it was a big match) was awesome and I so want to go to another game. I will somehow get tickets!

Oh and thanks to Matt for sending the Wolfmother CD... what an excellent listen that was. Fucking spewing I missed tickets to see them next month. Also, the chico babies went down a treat.. everyone officially love you (except Pete who took two chews and spat the damn thing out.. what a waste!)

Well I can't bear typing anymore and thinking of things to write is just too painful. Here's to me going to get food sometime between now and bedtime. Now if I could just fit in time to go shopping, get glasses, get my hair done and other girly things I'd be sweet.

Oh and thankyou to everyone who rang me pissed as from Carrie's 21st... you all were speaking nonsense and could only yell 'I CAN'T HEAR WHAT YOU'RE SAYING!', but it was awesome to speak to you.. and Carrie.. HAPPY 21ST!!!! Gutted I coudn't be there for it.

Wel I'm off.. showers to be had, kebabs to be eaten.

Bye darlinks!

STOP THE PRESSES

Momentous occasion #8748 - It has been exactly 3 months since we left DECS for the final time... god has time flown. It seems like yesterday that I cried everytime I saw someone then worked back until 7.30 to get everything done!

V also pointed out that this day is momentous for two reasons... it's been three months since we've had a PROPER hair appointment. I will be dedicating a whole entry to the efforts of 'Hairdressers' in London.

That is all.

Blegh

Caffeine free Diet Coke. Is there any product more useless? Just when I thought today couldn't get any more fucking unbearable the coke machine runs out of DC. This is after meandering in the freezing cold for about an hour only out of necessity so I didn't kill someone I work with. I am not a happy camper.

My saving grace

Not only does my reliant local to work Tesco's stock Vegemite... they stock the 235g jars.. OH YES!

By this I am officially announcing that I have indeed finished my second jar in two months. Yes, news is hard to come by.

Times like these..

Current music: Reel Big Fish - Song #3

Well, well.. it's been four days since my last post and I know everyone is on tenderhooks just waiting for my next installment.

Where shall I start. Well, today I tried to book Reel Big Fish tickets, doing the little old Rez trick of waiting til it's TOO FUCKING LATE. That's right. All gone!! Fucking devastated. Have got constant watch on Gumtree, Ebay and any other site that could possibly offer an consolation.

In more happy music news Dad emailed me today informing me that my Living End CD/DVD had arrived and it would soon be on it's way.... I'M SO BIG KEV. This only adds to the excitement of purchasing an I-Station on the weekend. Best 60quid I ever spent. I am officially the happiest little punk ever.

On the contrary I was not my usual happy self this weekend, nor have I been for the past few weeks. I've been trying to keep my homesickness quiet, mostly because if I mention it people tell me to get over it, but Sunday things really hit home and I could have quite easily booked a ticket home. I think it was a combination of tiredness, hungoverness, nervousness and too much time to think. That coupled with Matt calling (I'll take this moment to say thanks Matt.. you're the one person I've heard from regularly and its always a comfort..) was too much for little muggins here.

Anyhow, apologies and thanks to anyone who got messages from me.. your words of praise/wisdom/hugs made me see how silly I was being. Most of all it made me realise the day my little brother was supporting me and being the grown up I had to pick myself up and soldier on! That said I've decided I want to book a trip somewhere, anywhere, to give me something to look forward to. Afterall, that's why I'm here. Reading the TNT this morning on the tube inspired me to book a trip to Turkey for ANZAC Day. Most importantly I think that both Vanessa and Towsty won't be going. I'll be completely alone on travels for the first time and I think it will be the best thing I've ever done. Scary but exciting at the same time.

Now, to more happy news... THE SPOTTED DOG!!! For the first time I visited our local. It was Megs' 22nd birthday (well it was today, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEGSY!) and we celebrated in true Aus bogan style. After a 250 quid night out at the local restaurant it was off to the Dog. Leah and I made a pit stop at the Crown, met Dave (a guy from rugby) who was absolutely MAGGOTED, made him buy 3 or 4 rounds, as you do, then trotted off.

On arrival at the Dog my first impressions were that of a normal, local, pub. Until I entered the underground 'club'. MY GOD. This place was about the size of Thebby Theatre. And just as rocking. All I remember is succesive shots of sambucca with Leah - we are SO not ever allowed to drink together again... this girl is the devil!! Around 4.30am we were up on the blocks screaming along to System of A Down, RATM and Metallica and there were snakebites galore - bleeeeeerrrch. It all ended rather nastily with Fosters and Foo Fighters (thanks to the I-Station WHICH DID I MENTION I LOVE SO MUCH). I swear to god I will not be drinking this weekend.

Now I'm all recovered and it's back to work... the most hectic work ever. At least I'm busy, it's good experience and it's great pay. Wednesday night we're off to see Chelsea take on Everton. Vanessa and I have officially become bandwagoning Chelsea fans - especially as the two Brit males we know so well both endorse them wholeheartedly. A trip to the merchandise stand will see us complete our look... although somehow I can't fight off the urge to take my Power scarf..

Well kids, as this PC has no USB port you'll have to wait yet again for photos, and trust me, they are worth the wait. It's off to Sainsburys then home to cry myself to sleep for not getting RBF tickets sooner ;(

OHHHHHHH and.... Tool - if I haven't mentioned a thousand times before - have begun being mentioned a whole lot more in conjunction with many summer festivals and tours... ohhhh I drool at the thought.

Nighty night my lovelies

Our time is running out...

ARGH. I feel blogified. (??). I've wanted to write but this past week has been one massive PALAVA. I changed jobs mid-week, then the person I trained to take over from me never showed again so I've had to run back and forth training them whilst now working on the trading floor.... FUCK ME. These people are manic... and does the phone ever stop? NO. I'm worth every penny of the £26,000 salary I've just been offered.

In other Threadneedle news, this appeared on the Intranet complete with PICTURES FROM THE MATCH. How fucking embarassing... one of the guys I work with sent them round to the whole team, I almost died.

Green Goddesses Match Report

Threadneedle 5 - Howden 6

GS Kelly Bartlett
GA Donna Hawkins/ Renee Hawkett
WA Vik Kent
C Frankie Corsini
WD Ingrid Porter
GD Vikki Lewis
GK Kendal Old

The Green Goddesses slid to an agonising 5-6 defeat against Howden on Tuesday lunchtime. On a day of unparalleled rawness, both teams struggled on the frost-caked court, with players going to ground with a regularity of Eddie the Eagle. However, Howden seemed to cope more efficiently in the early exchanges and skidded into a rapid 0-3 lead.

Threadneedle’s GS, Kelly Bartlett, appeared to be distracted in her last game in a Threadneedle bib and uncharacteristically spurned several gaping opportunities early doors. It was as if the tears of emotion, welling in her eyes, were temporarily clouding her vision. As the half progressed, the greens’ midfield dynamo, Frankie Corsini, rolled up her sleeves and visibly upped the tempo. Several rumbustious interceptions were galvanised into searing counter-attacks and a rejuvenated Bartlett started to whittle down the arrears.

A half time deficit of 2-4 was clearly retrievable and Threadneedle set about combating Howden’s physical approach with fresh purpose and a few elbows of their own. Donna Lowry gave way to fellow Aussie RenĂ©e Hawkett for the second half and shots quickly rained in from all quarters. But the Howden hoop, like in a Wagnerian fantasy, seemed to be protected by an invisible forcefield and the Goddesses’ wide attack, Vicky Kent, was clearly brewing up for an explosion of Wayne Rooney proportions. To be fair, her feisty urgings helped Threadneedle claw back further ground and, with a minute left on the clock, there was just a single net in it.

Alas it proved to be too little too late and Kelly B’s last game in Threadneedle colours ended in a totally undeserved reverse. “Obviously I would like to have signed off with a win, but to be fair to the girls, we fought well and I think I can move on to my new club with my head held high,” she commented. “I would like to wish the Green Goddesses every success in the future.”

In lieu of a testimonial, the Green Goddesses gratefully return the sentiment.

In further news, over the Aussie Day weekend we (Me, Leah, V, Dan + friends) all ended up at the Redback. OH MY GOD. What a place. By the end of the night I had snakebite (Beer + Cider + blackcurrant cordial - classy - and apparently an Australian speciality.. err, righto) all through my hair, had downed shots of every kind and couldn't walk... all by 11pm! The pizza joint afterwards made it all very worth while - from what I remember. And Matt, if I ever tell you to call me, you should probably ignore it!

I will be checking hotmail this weekend people so stand by your inboxes eagerly awaiting mail.

Oh, and there are (hideously enough) photos from Aus Day/Redback that will be published asap.

Rock on Aus... I will be mourning tonight as I miss my first Big Day Out in 7 years... ;(
